Month: March 2007

  • No loitering....

So the last day of my rotation is march 23....I have to work a double shift at the hospital on march 24.  I've decided to make that my last day....even though I technically I could work for that next week until I move to Philly.  But nah.  I start working at CHOP on april 23...so i have about a month off.  To dilly dally.  To have no school and no work.  This will be the first time i've had no school or no work since I was 13.

So, what will I do?  First off, I need to study for my boards.....that's no joke.  I have two boards...one is just purely pharmacy based....the other is Federal law and law specific to PA.  The law one SUCKS...to study for it, you literally have to sit down and memorize the laws and regulation.  ALL OF IT.  Over the past few years, they've switched the tests to be computerized.  i HATE that...i'm an underliner and a scribbler.  I write all over my exams.  AND, you can't bring your own calculator....you have to use the calculator on the computer (yes, like the one in windows accessories).  How the heck can you use that for complicated calculation?!!!  AND, you don't get scratch paper....you get a small dry erase board instead.  I have heard that the dry erase board isn't big enough for you to finish a calculation.  So you have to stop halfway, remember what you wrote, erase the board and continue calculating.  (the calculations part is very very much like physics....well, it is physics....the physics of how the drug breaks down after you take it....complete with equations we have to memorize...so it's not like 1 plus 1 type calculations.)

Anyhow, i digress...i also plan on shopping for furniture online....aka craigslist. hahahaha.   I wish it were summer cuz then I'd go swimming in the pool.

I also plan to start working out in the gym.  I'm still thin.....BUT i am very flabby and untoned.  I have done zero exercise since my last softball tournament many years ago.

And i should probably get a head start on some of my DIY wedding projects.....maybe i'll do the invites first, even though it's not really DIY.  hahahaha.  Although it would help if we had a more definite guestlist.  (church peeps is still the major issue....it is putting me over my limit by 50.....and that's AFTER i edited).

And I'll probably get a hair trial done during a day trip to NY.....possibly visit my reception hall again for a tasting (I LOVE THAT PLACE....it's decorated differently every time we go...and they're always setting up wine and fondue platters for us) ....and maybe a cake tasting at the bakery.

Hmmm....all that stuff sounds like a lot, but will probably only take me like a week, max.  I don't know if i can do nothing for 3 more weeks.

  • Dr. Wang or Dr. my very good friend's last name...

I am graduating in May as Dr. Wang.......but soon after will become Mrs. my very good friend's last name....which mean, i would have had to go back and change my name on all my academic records.  So I asked my very good friend what he thought I should do (I already knew what I WANTED to do).  And he said to go ahead and keep my name for school and work purposes, since it wasn't him who did all the work (although he helped)  YESSSSSSSS!!!   I guess this makes up for him not letting me create hypenated married last names...hahahahaha.  Although I must admit, it would not make for the most pleasant sounding last name.

  • Luscious lashes...

So I bought a set of individual falsies from CVS....and I put them on myself today...just to see if I could do it myself.  And I could...it was pretty easy actually.  It looks real.....well as real as super long lashes can look.  It weird...it feels like nothing, but everytime i blink, I can see the ends of the lashes right before my eyes close.

I'm not sure if I'm really loving the fake lashes.  I will be using liquid liner, so from far away, you can't even tell that i have lashes at all.  But close up, it's like WOAH!  I never really wanted length...just a more defined lash line....I think the liquid liner can do that on its own.  Perhaps, I should just rely on my trusty friend, Miss Mascara.  I recently got the kind that forms little tubes around your lashes...and that stuff stays ON...and does not smudge.

  • Home alone....

So I had the day off today, which is why I've had time to do flowers and post so much.  Anyhow, right now, I have a ratty ikea bed frame...but i want a new bed.  A nice one.  But they're so expensive.  My dream bed would either be a canopy bed or a bed with an upholstered back board.  I think the canopy bed may have to wait until I have my first house.

I love the crate and barrel beds, but I don't have THOUSANDS of dollars to spend on a bed...eeeek

I have noticed that Pier 1 has started making some pattery barn and crate and barrel knock offs for MUCH MUCH less....so I may just go with pier 1 ;)

this project desk, that is a knock off of pottery barn's...about 1/4 of the price

  • Rose's poses.....

There was a sale at the supermarket on roses today.  It's been a while since I've done my cheap supermarket floral arrangements.  I picked up two dozen roses for $14.  not bad!!!  I got a pale ballerina pink (my favorite color rose) and an ivory/pale yellow.  I was looking for a white, but they didn't have any.  oh well...maybe i'll go back later this week for some more...it was SO cheap!

*EDIT* finally got around to playing with the roses.  I thought I would have enough roses for several arrangements.  But at the end, I only had enough for 1 decent sized ones (those arrangements at weddings must have at like a hundred stems in them...this bunch of 24 didn't even come out to that big!)

  • Tick tock......

I just realized I have exactly 10 months left.  It doesn't sound like very much time.  I've put off most wedding related things until after I move to philly.  (Btw, i'm getting reimbursed for the van, moving peeps and gas for the van and for the car...NICE....i've had to move twice with my own manpower and it SUCKS.  I always feel like crying when I have to do that.)  So by the time I resume...i will have 9 months left.  We don't have a real guestlist yet (the church people are kind of going to be a problem in terms of editing the list down....and I will have to edit..).....My very good friend wants to send out the invites 6 months ahead since we're not doing save the dates.  Is that too early?

Oh...has anyone tried the MAC Pro Longwear lipcolour (or the lip lustre)?  At my makeup trial, the woman used the lipliner, lipstick lip gloss combo...but i am TERRIBLE with lipstick (which is why i always wear gloss).  I am OCD about wiping my mouth when I eat because I absolutely hate it when people have bits of food left on their lips.  So i literally wipe my mouth after every bite...which means my lipstick will be gone VERY fast.  I've tried all the drugstore brand long lasting lipwear, but they feel and look cakey....I've heard the MAC version feels decent and the colors are sheer.

  • My makeup trial....

First of all...note to self:  do not go to makeup trials with the moms.  So, i had my makeup trial yesterday....it was interesting.  Can I just say that I LOVE the feeling of someone applying makeup to your face...especially the brush.  It's soooo soothing...I felt like falling asleep.  Anyhow, the woman was very receptive to what I wanted (unfortunately, the moms was not...and basically wanted everything I didn't want).  So I wanted a very natural, glowy, flushed look (almost like I just went to the gym)...it's going to be in the daytime....there's going to be lots of light, i don't need to cake on the makeup.  I never wear heavy makeup and I want to look like me...not like drag queen me.  Plus, I think I look pretty hot sans makeup....just kidding...everyone could use a little makeup!

Anyhow, I wanted heavier eyes and a neutral lip.  I have pretty full lips...so when you add too much color/gloss, I look hooker-ish...at least I think so.   And, with all the eating and what not, i didn't have to worry about reapplying my lipstick constantly.  I'm total follower of the 'dark eye, neutral lip....dark lip, neutral eye' philosophy.  So the woman did what I asked....I had a pale pink lip...looked like my lips, but a little of a softer pink.  My mom starts telling the woman to add more color...make my lips darker..."all brides are supposed to have brighter, redder, darker lips".  I had already vamped up my eyes with the fake lashes and liquid liner...so the woman puts on this brick colored lipgloss. And i was like oh hell no.   I looked like i had just landed lips first into some sparkly ketchup.  My mom liked it.  I took it off right away and had the lady put the pink back on.

Then the whole way home, my mom was telling me how i didn't look good and she didn't like it...and it was too much pink...that my eyes were pink...my blush was pink...my lips were pink.  Okay, my eyes were colored in a brown palette...and for the lips and blush, they're naturally pink without makeup anyway.  I don't know what other color people's cheeks and lips could be.  ugh.

But anyway, i think i'll book this woman...she kept my makeup light and the way I wanted.  The only thing was that she used individual lashes...but they kept drooping down.  I have NO lashes, so i guess they weren't enough to support some of the individual lashes, so it was 'falling" between the gaps in my lash line.  Should I use one of those whole row lashes instead...not the super full ones, but the lighter ones?

  • Mirror, mirror on the wall.....

I am having my makeup trial this Sunday.  It was supposed to be later on, but i hated having to make trips home only for wedding stuff.  So I switched it to this weekend, since I would be coming back anyway.   I was actually hoping I could set up the appointment for saturday morning, then I'd have my makeup already done for the wedding I have to attend...but she was busy :(

So, do you think my stick straight, asian hair can do this?

I LOVE this...so old hollywood.  I like girls with big foreheads.....like me! hahahaha.  I would love to be able to wear my hair down because everytime i wear my hair up, I get a migraine.  yeah, it's weird....I guess since i never wear my hair up, the whole pulling on my scalp thing triggers it.  I can wear a ponytail for a little bit (I've had to do this more often since my hair is annoyingly long-ish now)...but then it'll start feeling uncomfortable, and i'll have to take it out before the migraine hits.

Or I could do partially pulled up....

But my very good friend says he likes it all up....although I don't know how he would know since i've never worn an updo in front of him before.  Maybe i could do a really really loose curly updo....like my girl, Reese, while she was still with that idiot Ryan.  (Helloooooooooo joaquin!).  Then it would be up, but not migraine-inducing up.
