  • Stuff for baby #2

We have the double stroller and the bouncer (thanks Yach!).  I feel like we need more stuff.  Originally, if it were a boy, the plan was to just keep the baby in our room for a little bit and then have the boys share a room.  Now we have to scratch that and switch our office to Tyler’s room and keep the bigger from for the baby (we felt like the baby would need more stuff…crib, swing, changing table, etc).  Plus, eventually, I think the boy will care less about having a smaller room…and will probably have less clothes and therefore need less space hahaha.

We can’t decide whether or not to buy a second crib or to switch Tyler to a twin sized bed.  The thing is that he’s a corner sleeper.  He will only sleep with his head wedged into one of the corners of the bed and with his body against the side.  And he’s a mover…so at any given point during the night, his head could be in any one of the 4 corners.  Even if you place him in the middle of the crib, he will push his way into the corner. (this is why he has terrible bed head in the morning!)  So if we have him in a non-crib, we’re afraid that he’ll just push his way off the bed…or get his head stuck since the bedrails usually don’t extend the entire length of the bed.  We were planning to just put hte mattress on the floor so if he did roll off, it wouldn’t be a big deal.  But we think we’ll wake up to find him wedged in the corner of the room hahaha.

New dressers for baby #2 as well.

-Second diaper pail since tyler doesn’t show any signs of being ready to be potty trained.  And we’re not going to force it.  We’d rather deal with diapers than deal with accidents on the carpet.  Tyler still poops 3 times a day…with the added 6-8 diapers for the baby, it’s a lot of diapers!

Do I need to buy new nipples for the bottles?  Can I just sterilize the ones I already have?

-Room for those big infant toys again (jumperoo and exersaucer).  We are going to have no living room.  We plan on finishing our basement, so eventually they’ll have a separate playroom…but probably not for a few years.  I can’t imagine having to do renovations with the two kids.

-Minivan.  Sigh.  We entertained the thought of a larger SUV for a while…but at the end, the minivan is probably the most practical for us, especially when we drive home to jersey and NYC.

-I got the perfect summer wrap since I won’t be able to use my mei tai’s and SSC’s right away if I get the c-section.

Having 2 kids relatively close in age is not cheap!  I always thought it was basically free.  But aside from clothes and toys, you almost have to buy a whole other set of baby stuff…and the clothes and toys are pretty much the cheaper of all the baby items.

  • Wow..having second one seem like a lot..esp if the baby i opposite sex!…so right now your first is 16 months…how many weeks are you?..when did you get preg with your 2nd?…my hubby wants us to start trying for second bb in aug…and bella would be around 15 months…i still think that is too close! but then i guess by the time baby is out, the age diff would be better? …

  • What about getting a convertible crib?  Crib –> toddler bed –> full size bed.  That way, you won’t have to worry about Tyler falling out of the bed for a while.

  • Oh…my brother and I shared rooms until I was 10 years old…..so when they are young, it’s do-able.

  • i think if the nipples are in good shape, you can probably reuse. nipples are supposed to be replaced every few months, but we’re still using the same ones from when C was about 5 months old.

someone as telling me that they make these rails that you can put around a regular bed.

we don’t use our diaper pale anymore. we take out the trash so often that it’s ok if we mix them in with the regular garbage.

  • the nipples and bottles are the only thing i plan to buy new. our bottles look very used and dingy right now. i want to replace them for william but am waiting because i know he won’t use them for much longer.
everything else will probably be hand me downs for #2.
do you have a pack n play with the bassinet type thing on top? we used that for the longest time. you could put it next to your bed in the beginning with the newborn until BB is ready for a toddler bed.

  • i’m expecting #2 end of may/beginning of june…my girls are only going to be about 14 months apart!!  what double stroller did you decide on?  i can’t decide…

I’m about 21 weeks now. T is just shy of 17 months. He’ll be around 21 months when baby comes.

We have a convertible for him now. But he likes to sleep mainly with his back pressed where the front part of the crib would be (the part we would be removing). Its’s still kind of high off the ground though. Oh…i never thought a girl and boy would share rooms. I guess it’s not such a big deal when they’re young. we might just do that then.

Congrats! We got the Phil & Ted sports double. I didnt like the tandem ones. plus our sidewalks here are so narrow that I would have to walk in the streets with a tandem style stroller.

    @MissBride -

We might try that as well too. It depends on whether or not our babysitter’s daughter is trained by then to sleep out of a crib (she’s almost 2 now). Right now, she sleeps in the pack n play when they come over to watch Tyler.

  • @tubecozy -

oh…i have to find those rails!

  • @BeBe_Bum -

sorry, i just noticed I didn’t answer all your questions. I think T was around a year when we had #2…I’m not entirely sure.

  • oh I know what you mean about thinking it’ll be sooo much cheaper. You still spend so much! We’re probably eventually going to go the minivan way too. =(
