Month: April 2008

  • Our newest addition to the family.......

Say hello to OUR NEW CAR!!!!!!!!  It's a white hot 2009 Corolla and it's soooo cute.  We decided to get a smaller car for now because of gas prices.  We looked at the Prius too...but the rear window is weird and I felt like I couldn't see out the back.  In the next few years, we may get an additional bigger car if the family demands it.  But for now, we rarely drive and when we do, sometimes it's inconvenient to take PB's tanker of an Oldsmobile (although we sure can fit a lot of stuff in there!). So now street parking should be easier and driving for me should be way easier....that's right....my first "lesson" is scheduled for Friday with PB.  I hope I still remember a little...10 years is a long time hahaha.  I hope we don't strangle each other in the process...perhaps our first fight HAHAHA.

We got a great deal since Toyota was offering a 0 down, 0% interest on their cars until the end of the month (today)...as long as the car is paid off in three years.  So that's what we did....PB spent the past week researching stuff (we had a little Corolla vs. Civic debate)...then PB took a um... "sick" day and got the car!  I still have no clue about anything car related....I was like I don't care which model/features we get...I just wanted to pick the color hahahaha.

Our first choice was red, but they didn't have the configuration we wanted....so we went with our second choice or white.  But i'm totally digging the white right now..it looks so crisp.  I guess because it's clean.  It looks a little sporty, even though it's not the sporty model.

It's actually not too cramped inside...the legroom in the back may be a problem for bigger people though.  But it has a fully flat floor in the back...no more biotch seat!     And the model we got has 6040 fold down back seats, so we can fold down half or the entire back seat to extend into the trunk for moving extra long things.  And the trunk space is actually big for a little car.  It also has some sort of built in latch to secure the baby's car seats onto.  yay!  So far, we love it!

We tried to think of a name...but we're having trouble.  I can't decide if it's a boy car or a girl car.

I still haven't told anyone at work yet hahahahaha.  NO TIME.  Today was crazy, I don't think I spoke to anyone all day except to my techs...and that was only work related.

  • So I think we found ourselves a church.  YAY! It's only 5 minutes away (well, until they move next month, but then it's still only 10 minutes away). It's primarily an asian-american church...the branch we would go to is around our age...post-college, young married couples and young families.  The oldest people there looked like they were in their 30's.  They have two other branches in the city, associated with several college campuses.  Since our branch is out in the 'burbs, it caters to the professional crowd.  We actually saw one of PB's co-workers there...she's been there for 8 years! Small world.

But it's much more similar to the type of service we have back home (as opposed to the other one we went to, which was very traditional and all hymns)...and they have a kick-arse praise team.  But they were actually really friendly and several people approached us to chit chat...and we met a few other young married couples around our age who seemed pretty cool.  We're probably going to go to their married couples family group during the week, whenever our schedules allow it.

And it's sister churches with Remnant in Manhattan, so I think there are combined thingies every once in a while.  Not that I know anyone at Remnant, so it wouldn't really matter hahaha.

On another note...I made up my mind to tell people at work about Baby Bear today....but then ended up having a REALLY busy day.  My little announcement was the LAST thing on my mind.  Our workload was literally double last weeks...it was crazy.  All thanks to certain members of the hospital. Normally, the are SUPPOSED to enter their OR orders form Monday on Friday so that we  can prepare them over the weekend.  During all the rest of the week, they enter their orders the day before and normally they do so, i guess since it's not like they have plans during the week.  But on fridays, the orders are NEVER put in for Monday (we don't so surgeries on the weekends except for emergencies)....so instead, they all rush in Monday morning, put in ALL their orders for the entire day and demand them to be done STAT....then throw a fit when we don't have it ready in 5 minutes.

Anyway, that resulted in our daily production being delayed by 2 hours while we scrambled to get all the OR orders ready.

    I'll try again tomorrow. hahahaha

  • Hand cramping in the future....

We got our thank you cards today.  We originally wanted to do the accordion style ones offered by kodak..but someone else recently did that.  So we took up our photog's offer of free thank you cards (the regular note card type)...chose a photo and just like that we have 300 thank you cards fo' free.  It was hard choosing the one picture...but at the end, we didn't want the traditional bride and groom posing/kissing picture.  We wanted it to say wedding, but not blatantly so.  So yeah....we really want to finish them up by the time we leave for Kauai in two weeks.  We already feel bad for them being late (albeit not our fault)...but we shall see.  It's going to be painstakingly slow for me since I have infamously illegible penmanship (everything slants to the left....and someone once described it as "sanskrit").  I always write in script...and when I try to slow down and write in print, it looks like a first grader wrote it.  oh well...tee hee.

*update* I wrote one thank you card.  I'm tired already.  I decided to start stamping the envelopes with our return address instead.  This brought back invitation nightmares.

  • Fast track to a MD fellowship??!!!

Today, I got an email regarding a job openning.  I open it and it's an email addressed to me, shortened nickname version, asking me if I was interested in a last minute openning as the Infectious Disease fellow for next year!  hahahahaha.  There's a resident at the hospital with either the same name as me (first AND last name) or it's really similar (slightly different spelling of the last name).  I actually remember seeing the name on orders before and laughing.

So no, I did not take the job.  I promptly emailed back and let them know they contacted the wrong person.

  • $$$ WHAT $$$?

I just received my statement from my insurance company regarding my first two visits to the OB.  Had I not been insured, it would have cost me over $5000.  INSANE.  It's mostly charges from my blood work, but still!!!  I actually haven't been to the doctors since I was covered under my mom's plan almost 8 years ago, so I have no real concept of medical costs aside from prices of drugs. wow. craziness.

  • Spring is here...fo' real this time...

It's been soooooooooo nice the past few days.  This is perfect weather conditions for me...high 70's-low 80's with a breeze.  PB and I (and BB) had a little picnic outside....on our balcony for the first time this year.  We bought one of those bamboo mats to place underneath our chairs.  I thought those were pretty weather proof.  It didn't survive the winter....it was in tatters.  Below is our ghetto balcony setup hahahaha.  We never got around to getting a table, so we just use a large tote.  Those chairs are awesome though...they're the equivalent to outdoor Poang chairs.

We didn't do too much else outdoors because we spent the past two days copying and pasting our wedding photos from our iBook to our PC's with one puny little flash drive.  It took a REALLY long time.  And now, for some reason, flickr won't let me upload most of the pics because they're too large (even though it's under their upload limit).  But I can upload to everywhere else.  So I may have to upload at a lower resolution, or resize the photos.  All of the ones we want to post. ugh.

Here a few pics...it took almost 1/2 hour for these 6 to upload...and I don't have the patience to upload anymore. hahaha.  So these are all pre-wedding....since they're in the beginning of the disc.

    (all photos by Angelica Glass)

PB was supposed to get to my house around 8 AM to drive me to the reception hall.  But he got there super early because there was no traffic, so he just kind of hung around for an hour while we got ready.  Here, he's chowing down on some breakfast.

My beautifying crew...Lois Lam and Stacy Pitt (it kind of looks like Lois is slapping me across the face tee hee).

My mom is for some reason really superstitious about all those wedding things that we're not supposed to do....like see each other before the wedding.  But since that was going to happen anyway, she tried to apply those superstitions in other ways....like she wouldn't let PB watch us get ready.  When he first came into our dining room (where we were getting beautified), she kicked him out and told him to sit in another room *rolls eyes*.  Here he is sneaking a peek while my mom's back was turned.

We did a private see-each-other-for-the-first-time thing.  PB had only seen me with hair and makeup....he never saw my dress/veil....so this is the first time he's seing me all put together.

This was just a quiet moment during portraits....I love this pic!

When I figure out what to do about resizing the pics, I'll put them on our wedding flickr account for those of you who have access.  I'll put a reminder link in your thank you cards, which we will try to get out before we leave for Kauai in May.  It's weird looking at these photos...I feel like the wedding was so long ago.

And.................look what came in the mail today!!!!  Our own DSLR! The rebels are a perfect size for my kiddie size hands.  I tried picking up the cameras in the professional line and my hands were shaking...those things weigh a ton!  We have a telephoto lens from our Rebel SLR (film) that is compatible with this, so yay! I would love a macro lens, but they're $$$.  I can't wait to try it (WHY do companies send the batteries uncharged?  just CHARGE them for us, so we don't have to do it before using the products.)

  • Proofs are in.....

We got our proofs today! Except that the files are burned on a DVD...and neither one of our  desktops have a DVD player (they're old hahaha).  Our only DVD player is on our iBook...but it runs REALLY REALLY slow.  So I'm impatiently trying to see them all, but can't go that fast :(    Overall, I'm really happy with the pics.  We had two photogs so it was interesting to see each one's perspective of the same shot...and also to see their individual styles.  Our primary photog is more edgy, artsy....so we have a lot of cool pics that we appreciate, but mom and dad may not ("why is that fuzzy"...."why is the picture slanted").  And our second shooter is also really good, but has a slightly more traditional take on things.  The two of them had worked together before, so they had a good relationship going...one would take pics from a distance and the other would take more detailed pics.  It's a nice mix to have.

Uploading these pics is going to be a weekend job (if not longer) with the laptop and our fickle wireless internet...so it's going to be a while hahaha.

So I uploaded pics of one of my favorite memories from the wedding.  It was from towards the end of the reception and PB's cousin and bro decide to lift him up on their shoulders and bounce him up and down in the middle of the dance floor.  Then when they were done, PB decides he wants to do that to someone else and beelines towards me.  This happened really fast and we were really bounced up and down a lot.... so I was glad the photog was able to capture that without it being blurry!!!

I look a little less carefree because I'm petrified of heights and anything resembling a roller coaster ride (I have never once in my life let go of the safety bars on rides...not even one hand...not even on the kiddie ones!!!!)  So I was really scared and hanging on for dear life...I managed to life one hand though to flash the "rock on" sign....plus, I was in the most awkward position...with my legs folded under me and the guys bouncing me up and down by holding on to the front of my lower leg.

I didn't say it was the classiest moment hahahaha...but one of the most memorable!

Okay, those three pics took like 15 minutes to upload ugh.  Stay tuned for more.....and pics from my cousin (inluding pics from the bowling after party) coming soon!!!

  • I'm back y'all....

We spent the weekend in North Carolina for my cousin's wedding.  It's quite the different world down there.  I will blog more about the trip and the wedding tomorrow when it is less late....but for the meantime, here are some uh...pics of us from the wedding. (tee hee)

First, to kill some time during cocktail hour, PB and I posed each other and pretended like we were doing a photo shoot. (We had a lot of time to kill....I couldn't eat half the stuff there).

    Then, later, we posed chrissy...

We tried to pose my mom...but she was reluctant to make a fool out of herself (we were less afraid of making total arses of ourselves in front of people).  but then my aunt (mom of bride) saw and wanted to do it...so we posed them too...(this pose looked better in theory)

Then we forced my cousin, the bride, to pose (this was her own pose)

    HAHAHAHAHHA....okay...a real family photo

    Aaaaaaw....so nicely behaved.

*Update on Baby Bear Blog  .... Baby Bear went on his/her first shopping spree!!!!

  • I think I need a less stressful job.  Where can I find myself one of those?  It's sad working at a kids hospital....the kids are SOOOO sick.  I've been staffing the onco position the past few weeks and when I see how old some of these kids are, it's shocking.  Some were just basically just born and are already diagnosed with cancer.  I think now that I have Baby Bear, it hits so much harder.

I have no idea how these kids handle it...being sick...and then being pumped with all these nasty meds. They're amazing.  My hay fever alone is enough to make me want to keel over and crawl into bed (btw, i'm not taking any meds for the allergies now....so I have a constant headache from the congestion. )  I need to go somewhere less sad.

oh....i guess I have procrastinated enough...I start start my taxes tonight. UGH UGH UGH.

*update on my Baby Bear Blog

  • I guess I should start working on my taxes sometime soon.  I HATE HATE HATE doing my taxes.  I've done it myself for forEVER....yet everytime I have to do it, it's like I've never done it before.  I never have any idea what I'm supposed to do.  And this year, I'll have to do it for two states since I moved in the middle of last year.  UGH UGH UGH.
