So apparently, people are not bored reading my wedding related blogs…so I shall continue…
Centerpiece dilemna
Well, not really a dilemna…more like indecision…but it sounds more dramatic as a dilemna. So there are two centerpiece styles that i like, and i can’t decide on which one to use. My reception room has a relatively low ceiling, which normally calls for low centerpieces. But, the room is rather large footprint-wise, which calls for higher centerpieces…because the low ones get lost in all that space….it’s shaped like a big square
And to make things most complicated (well, not really, but it adds to the drama), the tables will be long and ovalish, so the decor needs to spread itself across the table in some way. The room itself is very english/colonial style mansion looking….mahogany walls, french doors leading to the garden etc…it’s not a modern looking space (just to keep in mind when picturing the centerpieces)….the interiors actually architecturally reminds me of a much (MUCH MUCH MUCH times infinity) larger version of my house (for those of you who’ve seen it before).
So…the few centerpieces that i’ve been eyeing the most are:
1) Low, long, modern simple…i was thinking maybe 3-4 four of these spread along the table…with a candle in between each. these will probably be about 9 inches tall.
2) Tall and clean…probably with some bear grass or curly willow tucked in between…probably just one in the center of the table…and maybe votives running down the length of the table on either side. I’m not sure how tall these will be….as tall as the stems of calla lilies
3) Or maybe a mix of both styles….classic flowers with a modern twist…probably in clear vases though…the space is too dark to have dark vases as well….maybe several of these running down the length of the table with votives in between. The taller vase on the right will probably be expensive and more difficult to find though…
So that’s basically what i’m thinking…but these are pretty much the two floral choices…orchids and callas (my mom’s favorite flower). I didn’t really find myself liking the more ornate types of arrangements for myself, even though they looked beautiful in other people’s weddings/wedding photos. Most people who used my room have used those tall pedestal type arrangements…with the really tall skinny stand and then a big ball of flowers on top. They look so nice when you see a full room shot. but i don’t know…it doesnt’ really feel like me. I’m a simple girl…i like simple things.
What do you guys think?!!! And on another note…i’m going to try on wedding dresses tomorrow…there’s this one upscale boutique that has this one designer that i like….very nicely priced too for the quality (100% silk)….but that’s their lower priced line…everything else runs in the few thousands. So I have to nicely tell the people…um…don’t bring me that expensive stuff…And I will go….even though right now I feel like cancelling because it’s supposed to be 4 degrees tomorrow….I WILL GO….maybe….unless it’s too cold…hahahaha.

Making Progress (So, these wedding related blogs are more for myself than anything else, but I don’t care if people read it. If you get bored by stuff like this, you may skip these…I promise to intersperse non-wedding related blogs in between!!!)
I am meeting with Angelica Glass (www.angelicaglass.com), photographer of my dreams next weekend. SOOOOOO EXCITED. If I get her, I will scream. We have probably looked at the websites of EVERY SINGLE photographer in the NY area….name a name…I probably have seen their work. If she’s available, we’ll probably book her on the spot. After looking at ALL those portfolios…it basically came down to quality and price….we finally narrowed it down to two photographers. One of them jacked up their prices considerably, so even if they were my first choice, we probably couldn’t afford them…..so Angelica had the best of both (she’s not really cheap….but she’s sooooo good and creative…her shots look like fashion magazine spreads).
Everything else is coming along slowly….we’re still battling with the guest list….well not so much us…basically the parents’ lists. But we’ve picked out the invites, colors and fonts, etc…..We pretty much decided on flowers and centerpieces (not the actual florist/making of it part…just the concept). We decided on our cocktail hour menu… just a word of advice for the day of….cocktail hour is DEFINITELY where you guys should load up (Oh, and there will be FIVE bars open that entire day…one in each of the cocktail hour rooms and TWO in the main reception room…so take full advantage…drinking during the day is VERY acceptable!!!!) So I guess I’m almost done. hahahahaha. j/k i think there’s no such thing as almost done.
And I think i found the dress (based on looking online), although I’ve been too lazy to actually go and try it on… I hate the concept of bridal stores…some brides want that service and attention…I just want a Macy’s-like experience…go in…browse the racks…drape everything I like over my arm until my arms start cramping…make a mess of the dressing room…hang stuff haphazardly back on the hangers (yeah, if you see stuff on hangers all messed up and inside out and stuff…that’s probably me)….scan the price tag at the scanners….then pay if the price looks good. But the closest bridal stores to me in Boston are all those hoity-toity types….they’ll probably cringe when they see my yellow self walk in. I should go in wearing sweats and a doo-rag (not that I have one or anything…)…MUAHAHAHA.
Oh, so I asked my very good friend his opinion on netted cage veils. He said if I wanted something like that, I could buy some onions at the supermarket and use the onion sack on my head.

So….found the perfect dress….of course it costs THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars. It’s soooo me….i love a bateau neckline. But it’s from this season’s collection, so it’s not like i’m going to find it on sale or at a sample sale or anythnig. So needless to say, I won’t be wearing it. The search continues…………

To do….or not to do my own makeup…….Makeup and hair people are so expensive! (I am soon learning that “expensive” will be a very popular word this next year) I feel like i look okay even with NO makeup on hahahaha….and even when i do wear makeup, it’s subtle…so most people can’t even tell…i don’t want to LOOK made-up. I know Flushing is probably cheaper….but asians tend to walk out of asian makeup places with what I call “white face”…which i don’t want.
I got an offer from a makeup artist to give me a one hour make up lesson….and then i can just do my own makeup the day of….and for the rest of my life. hahahaha. and plus…it’s a daytime wedding…i don’t really need to get all fancied up as much. And since it’s the winter time, i won’t get “shiny face” like i would in the summer.
And another issue…..i need a cheap florist!!!!!!!!!!! Where do I find me one of those?

oh yeah…one more photographer i’m considering…how could i forget!!! My cousin (in-law) Caroline: www.carolineyang.com who is also really amazing. The only thing is that i feel bad having her work during the wedding instead of enjoying herself.
And i’ve been thinking about bachelorette party stuff….since my very good friend and his buddies are already discussing it on their end. They want a los cabos trip…or some spring break-ish trip out in mexico. I was something more sophisticated….I’ve always wanted to learn how to golf. And i don’t even know if this exists, but i’d like to do a weekend with golf lessons at a resort (with spa for those of you who don’t want to golf…or for those that want to golf AND spa)….preferably somewhere relatively local…i hate traveling. Hmmm….must send a certain relative of mine on a little mission…..
Now, on to the dress hunt….I actually don’t even want to go to a bridal store…i hate when people help me shop…I feel like just ordering one online hahahahaha. My style inspiration:
Audrey Hepburn….simple, classic, elegant
My very good friend is an odd bf…he wants to be involved with every single little detail of the wedding. Anything i want, he has to approve (and vice versus, so i guess it’s fair hahaha). He says, “it’s my wedding too” hahahaha. So far, he’s been okay with everything i’ve chosen….but i know the dress is going to be the hard sell….he doesn’t understand why they’re so expensive. oh…and the flower concept evades him too….we were discussing potential centerpieces and he asks me, “so, that’ll be what? $5 a table?” i was like WHAT?!?!?!
