  • I'm going down to Philly next weekend for a pharmacy student conference at the Children's Hospital of Philly...they're also holding interviews there for staff positions, so i'm going to do that too.  They actually pay for hotel AND airfare....and there are little activities during the conference.  VERY NICE!!!  i'll be there friday-saturday (they only pay for friday night hotel stays).

Any recommendations for cool (and cheap) places to go/eat on a friday night?!!!  (DAN, i know you read this...answer me, boy!)

  • So Halloween is almost upon us.......and i did not get a costume.  So instead, I baked some Halloween cupcakes for my colleagues to enjoy (sure beats wearing a kimono all day).

And without further ado......my Halloween cupcakes.  Note the oreo "gravestones"...I was going to pipe out molten chocolate jack-o-lantern faces.....but I was feeling lazy.  Perhaps next Halloween....with hazelnut chocolate. mmmmm.

(sorry for the quality....i have bad lighting at home)

  • I feel like crap today.

    Stupid vaccine.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow, so there are a few cases of pertussis (whooping cough) at the hospital.  It's one of those diseases that aren't supposed to exist anymore, but it somehow making a come up.  So a few of the patients have it....and a few of the staff have it....no one knows where it started.  But someone in the pharmacy tested positive for it.  So, today, we all got the TDaP vaccine (aka tetanus shot....but the version we got as a kid...not the booster version)....and we all have to take a prophylaxic course of azithromycin.  fun stuff.

yeah....and my arm is absolutely KILLING me right now.  I feel like i spent all day lifting 100 lbs weights.

  • Today, I handed in my petition for graduation. WOOHOOOOOOOOOOO....that felt good! I'm almost done with being a student!!!

Now i'm debating whether or not to pursue a residency. It's not mandatory at this time to have completed a residency when applying for clinical pharmacist positions.......so i do have the option of just applying to hospitals to see what happens. But the residency gives you the equivalent of 3 years experience...it's basically like another year of rotations.....so you learn a lot. But it pays when medical residency pays....which is NADA. I know if i were younger, i would without a question do a residency. It's just that i'm so old now.....i just want to be an adult....have money....pay off my loans...buy a house...have a family, etc. And even though the residency is just 1 year, it's a big salary difference...it's like a $50-60K difference in salary.

I've tried talking to pharmacists....but the responses are divded. Those who did residencies say to do it.....those who didn't say it's not worth it.

So i actually have to decide pretty soon...becuase applications are due in december and january.

    AAAAARGH....so much stress..

Why can't i just win the lottery?!!!
