Month: March 2006

  • sigh...so i think i may not end up going to AZ for that rotation afterall.  I spoke to the girl who did it this year and she said you have to drive from the school campus to the medical clinic which is about 5 miles away.  She said there is public transportation...but it's nothing like new york's, or even Boston's (and i already think Boston's SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS)....they ONLY have buses...no trains, nothing.

So yeah..apparently phoenix is a lot like LA...it's one of those sprawling metropolitan cities.  So even if i re-learn how to drive, i would have to rent a car for 6 weeks...which comes out to a grand total of $900....AND i would have to pay rent somewhere....AND i would still have to pay rent in Boston.  I thought i could just find a cheap place somehwere near the school and just walk.

it still shocks me whenever i got to a city without decent public transportation.  i mean COME ON...it's the 21st century.....public transportation cuts down on traffic, it's environmentally friendly...it's NORMAL!!!!

  • Another one of my friends just got engaged....that makes SEVEN of my friends this year (aside from JeYi, all the rest happened in the past FOUR MONTHS!!!).  I have to start saving money .........and i may need to buy some more dresses !!!

Anyhow, i spent the entire weekend couped up at home studying cancer, cancer and more cancer....the last time i was outside, it was 25 degrees.  I go out today and it's SPRING weather!!!! YAY!!!!  And T minus 6 weeks til i never have school again!

  • ok...quick survey....for those of you in med school or know people in med school....help me answer this question....

If someone were to open an asthma pediatric clinic in a poor area where asthma prevalence is very high and patients are mostly uninsured

    1) would you want to take part part in that clinic?

    2) would you want full pay, half pay or would you voluteer (this would be a 4 hour a week thing)?

  • it is almost april.  WHY is it TWENTY FIVE degrees out?

SEVEN more weeks of school.....soooooo close, yet soooo far.

  • My very good friend bought me a nice new 19" LCD monitor to replace my 100 year old CRT (which is still really good, picture quality wise....but just HUGE)

Excuse the mess....it's a very hectic time at school right now!!!  It's usually VERY neat and tidy.....*snicker*

  • oh NO!  Allergies.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • ok...COMPUTER HELP PLEASE.

So, for my stupid business plan class, i need to create a logbook to help kids keep track of their asthma.  So it's basically one of those elementary school level graphs that you make on graph paper.  The bottom of the graph (or x-axis....haha i just remember what it was called) will be the days of the month (1-31) then on the y-axis i want to put peak flow meter readings...ranging from 0 to 800ish.  Then the kids just plot their readings on each day...and connect the nice little dots with a nice little ruler...and they'll bring their little logbook into the pharmacy so the pharmacists can monitor their trends.

SO...my big question...how do i do this on the computer?!!! i need the dates to line up with a line on the graph paper...the same goes for the peak flow readings.  I don't want to photocopy graph paper and handwrite them in....because it doesn't look professional.  I've tried usuing word and excel...no luck....unless i'm not doing it right.

HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP

    i hate this class

    *EDIT*

SO after reviewing my schedule for the remainder of the semester (brief side note: my desk calendar is still on January...but i like to scribble little notes to myself on my desk calendar....so now i can't throw the page away unless i copy all my little notes somewhere else...but who has time for that....so until i get really bored, i have zero concept of what exams/projects/presenations are coming up...) I realize that i am going to have a very very busy semester.   I have at least one exam a week plus FOUR major presentations coming up...two of them group presentations...two of them self-presentations (at least 20 minutes long...that's a long time to speak by yourself).  None of which i have started working on.

And then the LOVELY finals schedule has been published...i have three finals within the first two days of finals week....then three days off and one lonely final on the very last day.  That SUCKS.  Not only do i have to cram for the three finals, i have to stick around and wait til the LAST day of finals week to take my last final.

  • got my hair cut....for the first time since september...WHEW what a relief.  I don't know how you girls with long hair do it...i can't stand having long hair.  I can feel it sticking to my neck...and going down the back of my shirt...it was driving me crazy.  Plus my face is small so when my hair is long, I look like cousin IT cuz all you see is hair.

So i'm back to my chin length bob with layers that i get every time...hahaha i always want to do something drastic...but i'm too old for experimentation....i can't go on rotations looking like a freak....maybe after i get a job!

I went to this guy that an asian coworker recommended...his name is Jude...i expected a young, british white guy.  I get there and it's an older, french black dude.  I was like WOAH...hahahaha i've never gotten my hair cut by a black guy before.  But he was attentive and seemed to be very concerned about whether or not i liked it.  It turned out okay...except for the blowdry, but no one ever gets that right.  Why all the VOLUME?! I looked like  PUMPKIN HEAD. I spent 10 minutes in the bathroom afterwards trying to flatten it out.

    SEE PROTECTED

  • So, today was the season premiere of America's Next Top Model and the asian girl they have on there is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO stupid....i just CRINGE watching her....especially when she speaks.  And that Jade girl is so freakin annoying.....

  • So...this is what happens when you're talking to non-new yorkers....people think I'm MEAN....when i just think i'm being honest.

So...there are are three people taking this class together....myself, person A (who is VERY VERY studious and smart and is a tutor for the lower grades) and person B (who may be potentially smart....but is SUPPOSED to be a certified pharmacist by now, but is still in my year...and has failed almost every class once...and is a big party animal type girl...and she's a little be SHADY).  SO i know both person A and B...both more as acquaintances than friends...i work with person B...and I know person A through friends (the girls next door are good friends with her).  So..i feel a little more kinship with person A due to our mutual friends.

Anyhow, two weeks ago, the week before our midterm, i bump into person A while walking home with the girls next door..and she asks me if i've studied for our midtern yet.  (hahaha...she obviously doesn't know me that well).  I say no...and she tells me that person B has asked her to study with her and if i wanted to join in.  First of all, i can't study in groups...i get too distracted with other people around.  And second of all, i KNOW person B and her study habits (or lack of).  and i know persons A and B don't really know each other that well.  I was afraid that person B would be sort of taking advantage of person A's smarts.

And so, since i felt closer to person A, i asked her how well she knew person B.  And she said she only knew her because of the class (which is not at all..except for her name).  And so i just warned her and said, yknow, person B may not be the best person to study with....she has a tendency to not really study for her exams (this is what person B herself has said to me).

And THEN, person A (on yeah...also from cali) basically yelled at me, DON'T BE MEAN!!!!! I was like ?????????????????? I'm trying to prevent YOU from getting screwed over because i know the "study session" will basically turn out to be person A tutoring person B...and that's not fair to person A, who believed that she would be getting reciprocal tutorship from person B.  i was like um...okay....i was just warning you because i didn't want you to get screwed over and do badly on the exam because you were helping person B the entire time.

So when the girls next door and I left, i was like was i really MEAN?!  To me, i was just stating a fact...i should hope that if i were person A, someone would tell me that!

Sheesh, sensitive!  I just tell it like it is....i even felt that i had "nice-ified" my comment from what i was thinking.
