We had a pop quiz today…second day of class. They are MEAN.
On a sadder note, i feel SO bad for the people down south who suffered from katrina. It’s so hard for me to imagine the power of a hurricane that big, since i’ve never been through one. And it makes it so much worse that they basically live in a bathtub….i have no idea how they’re going to get all that water out. new orleans will never be the same again. I’m glad i got to see it the way it was before this happened.
Even though i complain about new england weather A LOT…it makes me realize that i’m happy that all we get are blizzards every once in a while.

WHy i hate my school:
They switched me out of my lab section and put me in an entirely different one (on a different DAY!)….WITHOUT notifying me.
They said it was a random process because the labs were uneven (the 5th years act as pharmacists and supervise two 3rd years….so the ratio has to be right for each lab).
FINE….whatever happened to ASKING…or even letting me know. i only found out because it happened to one of my friends and she was complaining to me about it…so i went to the registrar to get an updated schedule…and lo and behold….they switched me too.
They never mailed me an updated schedule…had I not talked to that one friend, i would’ve never known.

I just wanted to say that SCHOOL SUCKS.
In my Disease State Management class, we have:
4 exams – multiple choice
4 “quizzes” – which are handwritten therapeutic plans…i don’t know why they’re called quizzes…they’re basically exams
and on top of that…10 pop quizzes. that’s right TEN pop quizzes. Any class is fair game…and the pop quiz material is on what is to be taught that day…meaning, we HAVE to read ahead and do all the assigned reading. And the reading is NOT fun…there are 3040 pages in the textbook…it cost me a freakin arm and leg to buy thing.
Keep in mind, there are 16 weeks in the semester…for 18 tests.
And here’s the best part…it’s a humongous 6 credit class.
And this is just one of my 6 classes (7 if i add photography).

Calling all artists and creative minds….
Does anyone know how to bind a “post bound” book? It’s the kind with two hardcovers…and two screw thingies that hold the covers and paper together. i wanted to put together a photo album of the vancouver trip for my parents. So i went to The Art Store (that place is awesome!) and got all the goods.
I could’ve gotten the package that came with everything AND the directions….but i didn’t like the decorative paper design that came with it. SO…instead, i got the parts separately…but without directions. I thought i could figure it out…and i think i can…but i don’t want to mess it up…cuz art stuff is MAD expensive and i don’t want to re-buy stuff. I don’t know how artists afford art stuff.
HELP PLEASE! In exchange, i will gladly look up side effects of any medication of your choosing. thank you!

today, i am going to make my annual trip to Staples to pick up school supplies. It is VERY depressing that the summer flew by just like that…and that next monday, i will start off the week by sitting in class for four straight hours. *sob* Before the summer started, I vowed to brush up on my pharmacology in preparation of the upcoming year. The books remain where I left them after finals week.
But this year, i PROMISE to keep up on my studies…and i PROMISE not to procrastinate…and i PROMISE to study EVERY day.
PWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
In protest of the start of school, I have cut all my hair off. hahaha. j/k…i did cut it short though….I had to because it was so damaged and dry from the summer.
school sucks.
oh…and all the new pharmacists at work are younger than me. that sucks too.

So, you know that indian stand up comic, Russell Peters…the one that does the hilarious chinese accent. When i first heard it, I thought it was funny….but i remember thinking, ‘where did he get that from?’ because chinese people in New york don’t sound like that. The only chinese guy who i thought sounded like that was Yan….from Yan Can Cook.
BUT….when i went to vancouver, ALL the chinese immigrants sounded like that. EXACTLY like that. So it’s the canadian chinese accent.
Interesting, huh? who knew….that the sisterland up north would produce a new accent! i think i like theirs better…it sounds like singing!

I’m back from vancouver….i miss it already..i can’t wait to go back. Not even in New York can you go mountain climbing/kayaking/mountain biking….and then drive like 15 minutes home…change and walk to an all you can eat sushi/korean bbq/shabu (yes…all three) place.
i’m definitely missing all my cousins….i never had any of them around when i was growing up. I didn’t have any relatives in New York…I still don’t. And even though i hadn’t seen some of them since i was like 10…there’s just an instant connection…it wasn’t uncomfortable at all.
So after being on vacation for 10 days, returning to work is like pure TORTURE. I had to speak to a really nasty physician on the phone today…one of those megalomaniac ones. This dude calls the pharmacy and says that his patient didn’t take one of his oral meds…and since she was going into the Operating room, the patient needed to switch the med to an IV form (you can’t eat before an operation). adn he says he needs the IV med stat….keep in mind that the med was actually a chemo…and the pharmacy never treats chemo’s as stat orders..because that’s one thing you don’t want to rush..and potentially screw up. So we purposely take our time triple checking everything.
First of all, since he’s changing the route of administration, he needs to write a new order because the dose isn’t automatically the same. So i tell him that…then he tells me, “well, i’ll send the order and you guys starting making it now”. i was like..okay…what part of “we need a new order first” do you not understand….but i didn’t say that…i explained to him again that as soon as we get the order, we’ll make it. And it may take up to 30 minutes to go through all the checks. And then he shouts, “NO…it won’t take 30 minutes…you WILL make it right away…and i WILL get it when i want”!!!
i was like WTF…it’s not our fault your patient missed his dose. And we’re not going to risk the patient’s safety just because you demand things right away. So we followed proper protocol..and he got the meds 30 minute later. JERK.

yesterday, i climbed a mountain. the whole freakin thing. it wasn’t a big one…3000 feet or so, but i did it. i thought they would have cut a nice walking trail that wraps around for a nice leisurely walk. I was wrong. it was half rocks, half shoddy log steps (some of them were like 2 feet high)….and it was basically a straight line up…at a 45 degree incline at it’s easiest parts. it took me almost two hours. it was like a neverending stairmaster session.
i LOVE vancouver….maybe even equally as much as New York. the shopping here is terrific…they have tons of little boutiques…just like in the village. it is absolutely gorgeous here. if you look to one side, you see mountains…on the other side, water and beaches. And in between, shopping, outdoor activities and great sushi.
this is the first city i’ve ever enjoyed myself in, besides new york. i highly recommend it. A+!!!
oh, how was the softball tourney?!
